Message from ODA Nami, CEO,
Chair of the Board of Trustees
The founder of Aikoku Gakuen (established and incorporated in 1938, Showa 13), ODA Kosaburo, had been thinking about gifting a military aircraft named Aikoku (“Love of his/her Country”) to the nation going with the current of the time, World War II. However, after much consideration, he reached the conclusion that if he really loved his nation and cared about its future, he ought to devote his fortune to education—particularly vocational education for women in downtown Tokyo. He followed through with his intentions and inaugurated the Aikoku Women’s Commercial School.
Nowadays, Aikoku Gakuen includes the Headquarters, the Junior High School, the Senior High School (Hygiene Nursing Course, Domestic Science Course, Business Course, General Course), the Hygiene Nursing Department with two more years of education for registered nurses, the Vocational School for Childcare, the Junior College in Edogawa, Tokyo, and the Aikoku Gakuen University in Yotsukaido, Chiba, with two senior high schools attached to the university in Ryugasaki,Ibaraki, and in Yotsukaido, Chiba. Under the school motto “Be Kind and Honest” and the founding spirit of “nurturing healthy women who are economically independent as members of society and devote themselves to domestic happiness as family members,” Aikoku Gakuen has been working on providing education to women.
Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Aikoku Gakuen, the Aikoku Gakuen University was opened in Yotsukaido, Chiba in 1998. The university has organized four new majors, namely “Psychology & Life,” “Business,” “Regional Studies,” and “Japan Studies,” to commence from 2021, Reiwa 3. Through this reform, the university enables students to choose a minor along with a major, which I believe will help them acquire not only specialized knowledge and qualifications essential to university students but also a wide range of education and dignity as ladies and cosmopolitans and will give them more opportunities of international activities.
All the teaching and clerical staff will be sure to secure the students’ school life and nurture “Kind and Honest” personnel supporting the future of an international society.
